The California Northern Railroad
West Valley Line

North of Corning, the CFNR switches ends by kicking its cars north and cutting into an industry spur. This is MP 180. Just north of this point, the track is red flagged at the Thomes Creek trestle. Through traffic to the Tehama Wye and the Union Pacific's Valley Sub is prevented by the trestle's weakened foundation.

Its work done on the north end of the West Valley Line, CFNR 171 heads south with the cab forward. The cars picked up this morning will eventually be transferred to the Union Pacific. Highway 99W is in the background. This highway parallels much of the West Valley Line, from Richfield to Colusa County.

Thomes Creek trestle, about mp 182

In the middle, buckling of the supports weakens trestle
